When will 4G reach the UK
Now that the 4G Technology has been agreed, the auctions of the 4G spectrum to offer 4G Broadband and Mobile services are due in 2011, allowing 4G suppliers to launch 4G services.
The Mobile Operators have commented on 4G but not yet on 4G tarrifs and deals.
LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the 4G system expected to be used in the UK.
Mobile suppliers are gearing up for 4G, but they need the spectrum (space in the 800MHz and 2600MHz band) to offer it. Which may not be freed up until 2013 during the Digital Switchover. Older radar systems also interfear with the 2600MHz band,

Vodafone 4G Mobile Phones
Vodafone appear to have chosen
LTE as their 4G Technology, with testing underway, but no launch date. Once the appropriate 4G spectrum is made available
T-Mobile & Orange 4G Mobile Phones
T-Mobile & Orange are also looking at using LTE 4G, but with no immediate plans to roll out 4G in the UK. Sometime in the next few years, so we understand. But then would you tip your hand to other 4G phone and wireless suppliers.
Three 4G Mobile Phones This makes Three's silence of launching 4G services, wireless and mobile phones, interesting. Either confirming no plans or a 4G immanent launch!
O2 4G Mobile Phones Have re portably started Telefónica 4G trials across the globe. With UK trials covering the O2 offices in Slough. Lucky things! Achieving, so we read, download speeds of 147 Mbps using 4G wireless to a mobile device in July 2010.

LTE-Advanced and WiMax 2 are due to be the accepted forms of 4G. With the end 2011 or even 2012 as the likely arrival time for 4G.

Motorola Atrix is a 4G Mobile Phone due to be launched in the UK by the Orange network. Ready for 4G network services or for those lucky enough to be in a 4G trail area.
4G Phones in the US
As a hint to the future of 4G in England and the UK, the HTC Evo Shift 4G is a new Android 2.2 device shown at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
Once a 4G service is launched, the 4G smartphone or similar will facilitate super-fast UK broadband and surfing speeds.It has a slide-out QWERTY (rather than hinged as on the HTC Desire Z), a 5MP camera, 720p video / camcorder and a 3.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display. A microSD slot (up to 32GB memory card) and GPS.
In the meantime
3G smartphones can offer much, if cheap 3G data plans emerge. 3 Three UK have begun offering the "One Plan". offering, so we understand, unlimited data, 5000 Three to Three minutes, 5000 texts and 2000 XNet Anytime Mins for £30 per month. This includes the creation of a wireless hotspot for 3G Android iPhone tethering capable phones.
